About Alex

Alex Lopiccolo is an experienced Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant, Certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Consultant. Alex is well known as the “King of Swings.” When he is not working as a full time Sensory Integration Therapy practitioner he travels around the world sharing his knowledge of sensorimotor therapy with pediatric therapists and students at pediatric clinics and universities. He especially enjoys designing home sensory gyms so children and parents can have frequent movement and relaxation breaks throughout the day.

For almost a decade, Alex has been educating pediatric therapists in a sensory gym setting around the world on Sensory Integration Therapy Theory. He educates then demonstrates large motor movements in space in order to improve brain-body connection. Learning by doing is his favorite style of teaching so therapists can better understand their own sensory processing so they can apply innovative activities with their special needs clients.

Course Description

Join Alex, also known internationally as the "King of Swings" for this one-day workshop, where he offers practical ideas for the use of suspension and non-suspension equipment to implement treatment interventions at the clinic, school, or at home. Hands on the interventions to support breathing, coordination, timing, balance, and strength will be presented. Modifications, adaptations and the grading of activities will be addressed to support best possible outcomes. Ideas for supporting the increased engagement of children and youth will be reviewed, as well as discussion of ways to facilitate "play" to help form a strong therapist-child relationship. This dynamic workshop will support participants through hands-on learning opportunities, as they experience activities in their own bodies. Lastly, Alex will discuss how to create sensory equipment at a minimal cost.
